A day in Disney Springs

As most of you probably know I LOVE Disney World. Having spent a year of my life working there it’s become like a second home town (I just wish it was closer!)

The area was still Downtown Disney when we lived there, but I did get to experience Disney Springs in all its glory when we visited last year in November.

In this post I’ll share my favourite things to do in Disney Springs and the things on my bucket list for next time!

So here are my picks for a (full!) day in Disney Springs…

10.00am – Arrive and try to park in the Lime Garage, it’s the most central garage and allows you to enter at the heart of the Disney Springs shopping area (great for when you need to quickly drop shopping bags back at the car!)

Take some time to wander around the shopping area and make a mental note of stores you don’t want to miss out on during your day- There are so many down there now it is easy to miss hidden gems!

10.30am – Head to Sprinkles! You’re on vacation or taking a well deserved day off so why not have cupcakes for breakfast?!

Our favourite is the banana and dark chocolate flavour – it is SO good, but to be honest you can’t go wrong whatever flavour you choose! You can check out their flavour calendar to make sure you are going on a day your favourite is available. They even have a cupcake ATM, so fun!

Sit outside and enjoy the views of the bright blue lagoons!

11.00am – Experience Disney Springs from the sky by taking a ride on Characters in Flight!

The hot air balloon attraction is a great way to get amazing panoramic views of WDW. No need to book you can just walk up – The flight lasts around 10 minutes, adults cost 20$ unless you visit before 10:00 a.m. and tickets are only $10 per person! (we discovered this after we visited 😦 but it’s good to know for next time)

12.00pm – Visit the Coca-Cola store and grab a drink at their roof top bar! You can try Coke products from all over the world whilst soaking up the sunshine and people watching from above.

12.30pm – Walk across to The Earl of Sandwich and choose your favourite sandwich for a light lunch. I love ‘The Original’ roast beef (but I switch out horseradish sauce for mayonnaise!) Mark likes the ‘Holiday Turkey’ We also LOVEEE their potato salad so always share a side of that!

1.15pm – If you have room treat yourself to an ice cream from Ghirardelli for dessert! We usually share the Golden Gate banana split, but the milkshakes are also amazing! Don’t forget to go into the attached chocolate store and get a free Ghirardelli chocolate square of the day!

1.45pm – Now you’ve fuelled up its time to hit the shops…Disney Springs has sooo many amazing stores in one place!

My favourites are Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, Pandora, and Anthropologie. Mark loves Uniqlo so we were pleased to see one at Disney Springs- Previously we had only seen stores on the West coast of the US.

We visited Disney Springs during the Thanksgiving period and stores did hold Black Friday deals and sales so look out for promotions like you would see in a normal mall.

The World of Disney remains the best place on property to get your Disney merchandise in my opinion! With everything in one place it’s easy to grab everything you’ve been eyeing up in the parks in one hit. The Marketplace Co-Op is also a great place to get more unique and adult Disney themed items including the Disney Dooney and Bourke bag range (Pic of me being so basic with my Disney D&B weekender and a sprinkles cupcake for the plane home!)

A random shopping recommendation for really cute, edible souvenirs is to visit The Ganachery– I got the cutest Mickey chocolate lollipop there and it tasted so good!

Don’t forget to go to Disney’s Days of Christmas shop to get a personalised ornament – We got one to remember our engagement! Allow some time for this, or visit early in the day, as sometimes you have to come back later to collect your personalised decoration depending on how busy they are.

4.30pm – Drop that shopping off at your car and grab a drink!

There are loads of great options for drinks at Disney Springs – The bar at The Boathouse is out on a floating deck with great views of Saratoga Springs and the lake.
Raglan Road has a really fun atmosphere with live music and an Irish pub theme – I’ve *heard* they even sell Kopparberg there now (best cider ever!)
House of Blues is another great place for cocktails on the West Side of Disney Springs.

6.00pm – If you have a PhotoPass package on your magic band visit the Disney PhotoPass Service Studio near The Co-op. They can take professional portrait style photos and super-impose beautiful Disney backgrounds onto the shots. They are all free on your PhotoPass package! Just tap your magic band and view them on the app later!

7.00pm – Go for the best steak of your life at STK. seriously this place is amazing!

We have eaten at all the major steak places on Disney property… Le Cellier, The Yachtsman, Shula’s Steak House, you name it- STK topped all of them! I had the fillet and it was cooked to perfection! The sides are huge so you can definitely share and they also do great cocktails. The vibe of the restaurant it quite adult with a live DJ and slick decor – definitely a good place for date night!

9.00pm – If you aren’t too tired catch a late night movie at the AMC Movie Theatre. After a long day of shopping and eating it’s a great way to relax before heading back to the hotel!

My Disney Springs Bucket List:

1. Have breakfast at Amorettes Patisserie– We meant to go here in November but we just didn’t have time to fit it in! They Mickey Mouse dome cakes are SO cute and I can’t wait to try them out for myself.

2. Eat at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ – I don’t think this place was open when we visited, either that or we made a HUGE error and missed it! We are complete foodies and love American homestyle cooking more than anything else in the world (seriously, we want fried chicken at our wedding…)

The menu at Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ has me droooling and it is going to be the first reservation I make on our next trip!

3. Planet Hollywood has re-opened as The Planet Hollywood Observatory and they now serve amazing milkshakes! I definitely want to try one next time. (Pic from insidethemagic.net)
